Overview
INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR COOPERATION IN BIOINFORMATICS
(ICCB)
Provides scientific training and technical instruction to biotechnologically
developing countries in:
-
Networking
-
Utilization of relevant international databanks
-
Data analysis
Significance:
-
Implementation will lead to use of international molecular biology databanks
as powerful tools in the medical, agricultural and biotechnology programs
of participating countries and regions.
Training occurs at:
Training takes the form of:
-
Apprenticeships at Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel (W.I.S.):
Exposure to the entire gamut of hardware, software, network connections
and activities carried out by W.I.S. staff in running and maintaining a
national bioinformatics node.
Communication with international databanks, managing node hardware,
solving users' problems face-to-face, and providing hot-line assistance
in real time to remote users.
-
Workshops at regional sites:
Concentrate on interface between molecular biology and bioinformatics
(network navigation; software packages for analysis of molecular biological
data; graphic tools; computational analyses of molecular-biological structures).
-
Leadership workshops:
Joint meetings for professional staff of participating sites; evaluation
of progress, creation of regional projects.
